A few weeks back our family was lucky enough to adopt 4 hen's from a family who's city didn't allow them. We're super happy to be able to give these sweet hens a good home. And, it turns out, chickens are cool!
The kids LOVE them. They aren't afraid of them at all, they pick them up, pet them, carry them around - and the chickens seem to tolerate this and possibly like it. Mia and Mason run to check on them every morning, right before bed, and each chance they get during the day.
Turns out the chickens are great at eating bugs, weeds, and table scraps (mostly fruit and veggies). They are incredibly easy to take care of (so far, and we LOVE the fresh eggs.
